Video's are of me in person casting and making signet rings
These are my own amatuer made video's so not the best quality
Casting technique developed & invented in the eighties by, Hans Karreman replacing cuttlefish bone casting I have used for 20 previous years.
In conjunction with my 40 + years experience I have developed my own casting frames more suited to signet ring manufacturing.
Castings such as these eradicate porosity when incorporating nice thick shanks and heads, mass production of thinner rings is very different.
Because this is open air casting , unlike die stampings, minor surface defects may be present so small they can seldom be seen without an eye glass or magnification, usually in the back of the shank or shoulders similar to wear and tare marks, lost wax castings often have similar marks. .
Because I use this technique I am able to cast directly from your own sentimental gold a unique service seldom available on a comercial basis
Joining and soldering, cut to correct finger size & Finish ready for Crest engraving
I finish every ring by hand using fine abrasive burrs and emmery paper removing the bare minimum of metal to improve the surface finish
I also have master patterns in assorted finger sizes, so the heads are not curved dramatically by making size Z rings smaller often by 15 or twenty sizes which destroys the heads, and results in thin centres unsuitable for deep crest or seal engraving.
2 of the most important processes have been edited out, processes which make my castings suitable for seal & crest engraving by hand
in fact 80% of my customers order my cast rings because of the price, every hand engraved crest photo in website are cast rings
My rings are bespoke, the rough cast ring is cut and made to customers size before any finishing is carried out. Unlike shops who will tend to use a stock finished and polished ring and either make it smaller, stretch or add in a section to make bigger therefore a superior end product.
A quality cast and hand finished ring is almost as good as a die stamping
I have no desire to discredit other manufacturers, there are plenty of exceptional products available from companies such as Harrods , Garrards, Mappin and webb to name but a few. Rebus in Hatton Garden supply many high street shops with exceptional crest engraved signet rings of the same quality as my own Die stamped signet rings BUT if you don't want to pay Rolls Royce prices, or consider £700.00 as too expensive for a 9ct ring to put on your teenagers finger, My heavyweight extra thickness D C Cast signet rings at roughly half the price are exceptional value !
